Mouths to Feed is a major quest in Outward. It is the third quest in the Heroic Kingdom questline.

Background

After completing Sand Corsairs quest, Queen Calixa will call you for help about an imminent famine that will strike Levant. Sirroco, one of the regions that supply food to Holy Kingdom, is not able to send food supplies to Levant; it is only matter of time Levant's populations will starve out to death. Luckily for Levant, The city of Monsoon in Hallowed Marsh region has offered to supply food for Levant, but not enough to feed the entire population. Not only is that the only problem, due to the long desert journey, any large amount of food supplies will perish during the journey to Levant. Fortunately, Kirouac has gone to Monsoon work with Monsoon's alchemist, Laine Aberforth to find a food source that won't decay during desert journey. The player will be sent to Monsoon to aid Kirouac and Laine's research, in an attempt to save Levant from imminent starvation.

  • Queen Calixa mentions that they have a steady food supply, enough to last month and a half before slums will starve out. This seems to be a bug, as both options during Sand Corsairs quest triggers this dialogue.

Description

  • Report to Queen Calixa in the Palace in Levant
  • Go to city of Monsoon and talk to Monsoon's alchemist, Laine Aberforth.
  • Laine Aberforth will tell you to gather 5 Marshmelons and 1 Phytosaur Horn.
  • Laine will tell you to wait half a day (12 hours) for result of his experiment.
  • Go to talk a Soroborean Caravaneer in Monsoon regarding transporting Marshmelon plant.
  • Bring an ancient tabklet to the Soroborean Caravaneer. (the tablet can be found inside Spire of Light, southeast of monsoon)
  • Pay 300 silver to Soroborean Caravaneer (You can also call in the favor Clayton mentioned from lasts quest, Sand Corsairs)
  • After paying 300 silver to Soroborean Caravaneer, report back to Queen Calixa in the Palace in Levant.

Walkthrough

  • Thankfully, there is not much "work" involved in this quest- to short, you need to gather 5 Marshmelons, and flip some levers in Spire of Light tower for a stone tablet. (the Marshmelon farmer in Monsoon does NOT sell Marshmelon)

After talking to Queen Calixa in Levant, head to Monsoon and talk to Monsoon's alchemist, which is marked on your map. Monsoon's alchemist will ask you to gather 5 Marshmelons and 1 Phytosaur Horn because he almost ran out of Marshmelons after repeated failure of his experiment.

  • There are 3 Marshmelons near Old Windmill area, inside greenhouse-looking place. Old Windmill is marked on your map, so it should be easy to find the place.

Location of Marshmelons

After gathering 5 Marshmelons and Phytosaur's Horn, you will need to wait 12 hours for the experiment to finish, and talk back to him.

  • the quest journal will NOT update after waiting 12 hours, so just talk to him again after waiting 12 hours.

Laine (Monsoon's Alchemist) will tell you that the experiment is success, but it's going to be a bizarre solution. It is possible to transport Marshmelons to Abrassar without Marshmelons spoiling, but you need to uproot an entire Marshmelon plant in a carriage. You will need to go talk to a Soroborean Caravaneer for help, as they are only ones capable of doing such task with their carriages.

The Soroboreean Caravaneer will agree to the task, but he will ask you to go fetch an ancient stone tablet in Spire of Light, southeast of Hallowed Marsh. The tablet itself is sealed behind an impenetrable ward, you will have to flip all levers in Spire of Light (not the basement level) to get the stone tablet.

  • It is not required to fight Light Mender to get the stone tablet, even though you will have to flip a switch behind the portal that will initiate the fight against Light Mender. Simply end the dialogue by pressing ESC.
  • Retrieving the stone tablet will also trigger the quest, Strange Apparitions. Finish this quest first ASAP, since this quest has a time limit mentioned above.

After returning to Soroborean Caravaneer, he will ask you additional 300 silver as his contacts have all tapped out. If you have "call in a favor" option from Clayton during last quest Sand Corsairs, you will have an option to call Clayton's favor instead of paying 300 silver.

Return to Queen Calixa in Levant after paying 300 silver to Soroborean Caravaneer.
